Frank Frazetta R.I.P.

Frank Frazetta
February 9, 1928 - May 10,2010
R.I.P.

I first remember seeing Frank Frazettas artwork on a paperback copy of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Conqueror at my local library as a kid. I begged my mom to buy a Molly Hatchet tape at a garage sale after seeing his fantastic art on the cover. Over the years Frazetta art has been with me. From seeing the airbrushed vans in my youth, to amassing much of his collected books in adulthood; i know only now how many of us with the same sentimentality have been impacted by this man's legacy, a huge inspiration to generations of visual artists and fantastic appreciators. Although a sad day in death's mourning, the vitality of his painting will continue to blaze a trail for generations of admirers to follow. Frank Frazetta, R.I.P.

BEDEMON news...Doom metal legend team up on new full length CD.

I recently completed the artwork for Heavy Rock legends of the underground, Bedemon's new album. Read the news here. Originally, Pellet,(Pentagram's Tour Manager) and Geof O'Keefe (Drummer for Bedemon and guitarist/drummer for all up through the 70's lineup of Pentagram with co-founder Bobby Liebling) were interested in using a piece I did depicting horror movie scream queen, Barbara Steele in the classic movie Black Sunday (Mask of Satan). Some legal issues were of concern and after trying to track down the lovely Barbara Steele for permission to use her likeness, it was decided by the band to use a piece of art that Geof O'Keefe saw that I drew after seeing Pentagram play during the 2008 tour w/ Nachtmystium, entitled "Petrified"( Inspired by one of Pentagram's songs of the same name.) I was then shown by Geof, a sketch from the late Bedemon/Pentagram guitarist Randy Palmer which eerily had the same design and concept as mine! This crude sketch was drawn before Randy's death in 2002 as HIS concept for THIS same album! CREEPY! This sealed the coffin so to speak and I was chosen for the cover art. It was a real honor to have had Randy's family and friends involved with my contribution to this project. Turns out Randy and I had quite a few things in common. Horror movies and comic books and heavy music and our love for Barbara Steele as the #1 horror BABE of all time! Speaking of Creepy...Randy Palmer was also the last Editor-in-Chief for Warren Magazines Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella and Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. He has also written books about "The Godfather of Gore" Herschell Gordon Lewis, and B-Movie Special Effects Monster Maker, Paul Blaisdell and numerous articles for Fangoria, Filmfax, Cinefantastique, Famous Monsters of Filmland. Thanks to Geof O'Keefe, the band, and all those involved including Randy's family, for choosing me for the artwork and keeping the memory of Randy's music alive. To find out more about the history of Bedemon, Randy Palmer and the upcoming CD visit here.

7" vinyl e.p. from Finland's HOODED MENACE

...released by Doomentia Records, this thick slab of horror/death/doom metal features a complete art and layout done by myself back in 2008. 100 released on maroon vinyl. 400 on black. Unfortunately, I lost my own maroon copy during a move and hope I can get one of these again. Listen to Hooded Menace and watch the Spanish and Italian horror films from the 70's that inspired them.
